Our policies and reports
Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.
Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.
Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.
Attendance and absences
Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.
In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

School Excellence Plan
We have developed a School Excellence Plan (SEP) in consultation with our community, identifying student outcomes and connected to a budget.
The School Excellence Framework (SEF) underpins our school planning and reporting approach. The framework provides a clear description of the key elements of high-quality practice across learning, teaching and leading.
The SEP is a working document that details the steps our school will take to improve learning outcomes, and the achievement and growth of all students. To ensure continuous improvement, the SEP reflects where our school is at and how it will further improve learning, teaching and leading.
It demonstrates our alignment and our commitment to excellence as part of public education in NSW to ensure a profound difference to the ongoing growth and development of our students.

School behaviour support and management plan
The School Behaviour Support and Management Plan is a structured framework designed to promote positive behaviour, student wellbeing, and a safe, inclusive learning environment. It outlines clear expectations, proactive support strategies, and consistent responses to behaviour, ensuring all students receive the guidance and encouragement needed to thrive. By fostering self-regulation, resilience, and respectful relationships, the plan helps students develop essential social and emotional skills for lifelong success.
Positive Behaviour for Learning
At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is an evidence-based whole school process to improve learning outcomes for all students.
At Metella Road Public School there are four universal expectations. These
stem from the school's acronym:
Motivated
Respectful
Proud
Safe
Students are expected to uphold these expectations in the classroom and playground. Weekly lessons are explicitly taught by classroom teachers to ensure that students have a clear understanding of how these values can be incorporated into their daily school life.
Teachers deliver consistent responses to student learning and behaviour. Students respond positively as they have been taught what is expected of them.
We have a focus of the fortnight on our four core values; Motivated, Respectful, Proud and Safe. This reminds students of our expectations which promotes Positive Behaviour for Learning.
Captain Metella is the PBL mascot at Metella Road Public School. You can see him on:
