Metella Road Public School encourages Stage 3 students to mentor younger students, helping them to be Motivated, Respectful, Proud and Safe. This is done in many ways, including the buddy support system, Play Support and through the Year 6 Ambassadors program.
Buddy Support:
Throughout Term 1, our students have enjoyed getting to know their buddies. They have made Easter hats in preparation for our annual Easter Hat Parade. Students also worked together learning about Harmony Day, discussing the importance of respecting and valuing diversity. Stage 1 students have also engaged in a peer reading program with their buddies, practising reading with fluency and expression. Our students love their time with their buddies!
Play Support:
Year 5 students are rostered on at recess and lunch time to support K-2 children in the playground. Year 5 students organise engaging activities and support younger students to play cooperatively together. Our younger students absolutely love these experiences.
Year 6 Ambassadors:
This program involves selected Year 6 students who take an active role in supporting teachers and students in extra-curricular activities. Their help and support is highly valued and contributes towards building a productive and cohesive community.
